FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General Questions:

  • Yes, bookings are preferred. To be seen on time and to avoid a waiting time, an appointment would be preferred however walk-in patients are most welcomed. 

    Please call us to arrange for an appointment.

  • A referral from a doctor or specialist is NOT required. 

     

    Medicare – For patients who are attending physiotherapy under the Enhanced Primary Care Program (EPC) or the Chronic Disease Management Program (CDM), a Doctor referral and an “EPC plan” is required upon first visit. 

     

    Others – For Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), Compulsory Third Party (CTP), WorkCover, LifeTime Care and Support (LTCS) clients with appropriate approval, gazetted rates may apply. This means no out of pocket expenses for the client.

     

    In general referrals are NOT required, however if one is given to you by your treating doctor it is advised that you bring it with you.

  • We are not a bulk billing clinic. However we accept EPC (Enhanced Primary Care)  referrals under Medicare. In order to be covered under Medicare you must be referred by your GP under an ‘Enhanced Primary Care Plan’ also known as an ‘EPC’. Once we have confirmed that you are under the EPC plan, you will be immediately eligible for a $58.30 rebate from Medicare. 
     
    Please make sure you have your EPC Management documents ready for your initial consultation. 

  • It is a Referral form under Medicare for patients with a chronic medical condition and complex care needs which you can only obtain from your GP.

    Please note that not all patients are eligible under this plan. Please verify with your GP prior to attending your physiotherapy or podiatry consultation. 

  • We do accept credit cards and over the phone payment. 


    For your convenience, we have an EFTPOS machine, which accepts Debit, VISA and Mastercards.

  • Yes, our practice is fitted with HICAPS and EFTPOS machines which allow on the spot claiming from participating Private Health Funds.

  • No cancellation fee will incur if an appointment was cancelled 24 hours prior to the appointment.

    However, if an appointment was to be cancelled on the day of the booking, a cancellation fee may be charged to your nominated credit or debit card depending on the extenuating circumstances. 

     

    Should there be any issues regarding your appointment, please feel free to call us and our friendly staff will assist you as much as they can. 

  • Each physiotherapy treatment may vary based on the type of injury and condition/s. However as a general guideline, physiotherapy consultations are as follows:

    Initial Consultations: Standard 45 min or Complex 60 min
    Subsequent Consultation:  30 min or 45 min
    Extended Consultation: 60 min 

  • It is highly recommended that all patients should wear clothes that allow easy access to the area of treatment. Loose clothes like gym attire, shorts and singlets are great.
     
    If you are NOT comfortable with exposing the area of treatment, please inform the physiotherapist and special arrangements will be made for you.

  • Preparing for your physiotherapy session is important, as it will allow the therapist to be even more efficient in determining the right treatment plan for you. Here are a couple of things you should prepare prior to your visit.
     
    Please bring your X-Rays, Ultrasound, Radiological Scans and reports relating to your injury for the therapist.


    Have your documents ready (if applicable): Doctors referral, EPC Program documentation, DVA Gold Card, Workcover Certificate and insurance company information for Workcover claim.


    Please Remember to Bring your Medicare Card (if you are an EPC patient) or Private Health Fund Card (if applicable)

  • Preparing for your physiotherapy session is important, as it will allow the therapist to be even more efficient in determining the right treatment plan for you. Here are a couple of things you should prepare prior to your visit.
     
    Treatment Area: if a treatment bed is required please prepare a spacious area for treatment. Our mobile physiotherapist uses a standard mobile treatment bed sized at 186 cm (L) by 55 cm (W).
    Please have your X-Rays, Ultrasound, Radiological Scans and reports relating to your injury ready for the therapist.


    Have your documents ready (if applicable): Doctors referral, EPC Program documentation, DVA Gold Card, Workcover Certificate and insurance company information for Workcover claims
    Towels: If you prefer to use your own towels, please have them ready for our arrival.


    For patients with mobility issues, please let our staff assist you in preparing a treatment environment.

PHYSIOTHERAPY

  • No, you can book an appointment directly without a referral. However, referrals may be required for certain insurance claims or care plans.

  • Your first session includes a comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and development of a personalised treatment plan tailored to your goals and condition.

  • The number of sessions varies depending on the complexity of your condition and treatment goals. Your physiotherapist will discuss an estimated timeline during your initial appointment.

  • Physiotherapy can address a wide range of issues, including sports injuries, musculoskeletal pain, post-surgical recovery, chronic pain, TMJ dysfunction, and mobility challenges.

  • Yes, we incorporate hands-on techniques such as joint mobilisation and soft tissue therapy, alongside evidence-based modalities like shockwave therapy to enhance recovery.

  • All our physiotherapists are fully accredited and registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Yes, physiotherapy is covered under most private health insurance policies with extras cover. Check with your provider for details on rebates.

EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY

  • An Exercise Physiologist (EP) is a university-qualified health professional who specialises in using exercise to prevent, manage, and treat a range of chronic conditions, injuries, and disabilities.   • Exercise Physiologists can assist with a variety of health concerns, including chronic disease management, musculoskeletal injuries, weight management, and improving mobility. They design individualised exercise programs to support your recovery, enhance your physical health, and prevent future injuries.

  • No referral is required to see an Exercise Physiologist at Sydney Allied Health Group. However, if you have a specific health condition or injury, a referral from your GP or specialist may be helpful to ensure your program is tailored to your needs.

  • In your first session, your Exercise Physiologist will conduct a thorough assessment, which includes discussing your medical history, physical condition, and goals. Based on this, a personalised exercise program will be developed to meet your unique needs.

  • The timeline for results varies depending on your specific condition and goals. Some clients see improvements within a few weeks, while others may take longer. Regular sessions and adherence to the prescribed exercises will help you achieve sustainable, long-term results.

  • No, a referral is not required. You can book an appointment directly with us.

  • Coverage for orthotics depends on your health fund. We recommend checking with your provider for specific details on what is included in your plan.

GROUP CLASSES

  • Yes, for Fit4Life and Fit4Life Parkinson’s, medical clearance is required to ensure it’s safe for you to participate.

  • The initial assessment evaluates your current fitness level, goals, and specific needs to ensure your program is tailored to you.

  • You need to register through Diabetes Australia, as they coordinate the program.

  • We host Beat It classes once a quarter.

  • Bring comfortable workout clothes, supportive shoes, a water bottle, and any relevant medical documentation.

  • Class passes can be purchased after your initial assessment and booking into the appropriate class.

  • Yes, our classes are designed to cater to various fitness levels, with exercises tailored to individual needs and abilities.

  • We recommend completing the initial assessment first to ensure the class is suitable for you, but feel free to ask about trial options during your consultation.

  • Fit4Life is for individuals aged 55+ to maintain general health, while Fit4Life Parkinson’s focuses on exercises specifically for Parkinson’s disease management.

  • Let us know in advance, and we can discuss options for rescheduling or make-up sessions where possible.

  • Our class sizes are kept small to ensure personalised attention and a safe environment for all participants.

  • Yes, all classes are led by experienced physiotherapists or exercise physiologists trained in group exercise and rehabilitation.
