CUSTOM FOOT ORTHOSES

Custom foot orthoses are personalised shoe insoles designed to support your feet and enhance their function. They are crafted based on a detailed biomechanical assessment and custom foot molds to fit your shoes, lifestyle, and foot health goals.  Custom foot orthoses are a conservative, non-surgical offloading device often used in conjunction with other therapies for a wide range of musculoskeletal issues. This can include and is not limited to plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, morton’s neuromas, and ankle instability.

For people with painful arthritic feet, orthoses offer relief by distributing weight and pressure more evenly, helping with mobility and allowing you to continue your daily activities.

For those with diabetes or neuropathy, custom foot orthoses help prevent issues like corns, calluses, and other foot deformities. They protect against complications like ulcers and further degeneration, ensuring better foot health.

In children, orthotics can aid in the proper development of feet and lower limbs. A common condition that we see are flat feet in kids. Foot arch height or lack often does not always indicate that a child will have problems with their feet.  If your child experiences pain or has noticeable differences between their feet, a podiatrist can help guide treatment. In short, custom foot orthoses can make a big difference in foot comfort and health, no matter your age or specific concerns.

Initial Consultation (including podiatric biomechanical assessment)

In your first visit, our podiatrists will take the time to listen to your concerns and medical history. They may ask about your daily routines and activities, and footwear to gain a holistic view of your current situation. During the consultation, a podiatric biomechanical assessment is performed. This is a comprehensive evaluation of your foot structure and lower limb function during movement, with the goal of identifying any abnormalities or underlying conditions that may be causing foot problems or affecting your overall performance.

Key Benefits:

  • Accurate Diagnosis: Helps identify underlying causes of foot pain, imbalances, and gait irregularities.

  • Tailored Treatment Plans: Allows podiatrists to create personalised treatment plans, including orthotics, exercises, and footwear suggestions.

  • Injury Prevention: Detects risk factors for injury, such as poor alignment, and helps reduce future injuries.

  • Enhanced Performance: Optimises foot function to enhance athletic performance and overall movement efficiency.

Key features of a biomechanical assessment:

  • Foot structure and alignment: The whole foot structure is assessed to determine if it is contributing to any foot problems.

  • Joint range of motion testing: Assessing the flexibility and mobility of your foot joints

  • Muscle strength and function: The strength of the muscles in your feet and lower limbs are assessed to see if certain muscles are weak or overcompensating for others.

  • Static Assessment: Analyzes posture, alignment, and weight distribution while standing. It helps identify structural abnormalities, such as high arches or flat feet, and assesses the alignment and weight distribution.

  • Dynamic Assessment: Observation of walking or running patterns to identify movement issues.

  • Footwear assessment: Your current shoes are examined to see if they are providing adequate support to your feet. Footwear can contribute to many foot issues.

  • Medical history review: Existing medical conditions, previous injuries, or family history can influence your feet or lower limbs.
